A Better Bar for Members

Jeff is traveling statewide to meet with members and understand what programs The Florida Bar should develop to best support the legal industry. This listening tour will inform his platform and to the extent The Florida Bar can do it, become part of his agenda as action item goals.

Reducing the Cost to Practice Law

Create a purchasing program within The Florida Bar to leverage its enhanced bargaining power for you—our members. Operating a law firm is costly. By negotiating, we reduce the expense of necessary support services like technology, legal research, website design and management.

Use this same model to secure lower health insurance rates for our members, their families and staff. This investment improves the wellbeing of our legal professionals and in turn, those they represent.

Strengthen Our Sections, Committees and Voluntary Bar Associations

The lifeblood of The Florida Bar lies in the energy and innovation of our sections, committees and voluntary bar associations.  These groups provide critical education, mentorship, networking and advocacy opportunities for lawyers across the state. Yet, too often, they are left without the resources needed to grow and thrive.  That’s why I believe we should dedicate a professional marketing person in-house specifically to support our sections, committees and voluntary bar associations. They would provide messaging, outreach, and recruitment support to highlight the value of membership and attract new members.

Enhance Statewide Marketing to Facilitate the Matching of Lawyers and Clients

Enhance the referral program within The Florida Bar to match prospective clients with members who sign up with the program. It will connect clients to the respective voluntary bar associations in their area and for those not covered by a voluntary bar, directly to local lawyers. This enhanced marketing expands awareness to potential clients while also increasing the number of connections to voluntary bar associations and referrals to lawyers.

Maximize The Florida Bar’s Value and Efficiency

Costs & Overhead – Evaluate which programs best serve the needs of our members and eliminate those that do not. The legal profession and the climate we work in is changing almost daily. By routinely evaluating programs we can streamline what is offered and expand those that bring the best value.

Ethics Hotline – Extend the ethics hotline service hours to improve access, protect attorneys and increase usage. By expanding these service hours, we limit barriers and further the ethical standards held under the rule of law. This is especially beneficial to our out-of-state lawyers in different time zones.

Fair and Just Regulation – Ensure that lawyers are evaluated fairly no matter where they practice. Each circuit across Florida must provide an impartial and objective assessment of attorneys based on the same criteria without bias.

Create a Legal Innovation Counsel

As President-Elect, I will create a Legal Innovation Counsel to ensure Florida lawyers lead in emerging technologies while safeguarding ethics, client confidentiality and professional integrity. By establishing this counsel, the Florida Bar can lead the way in shaping a modern profession—one that embraces innovation while upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

Attorneys in Florida’s largest law firms, are often at the forefront of legal innovation—deploying advanced technologies to manage complex matters, streamline operations and deliver greater value to clients.  As President-Elect, I will ensure that the Florida Bar is not a bystander, but a proactive partner in this evolution.

The Legal Innovation Counsel will include representatives from large law firms, legal technologists and academic experts and will:

  • Advise the Bar on emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics
  • Evaluate their impact on legal ethics, client confidentiality, and professional responsibility
  • Recommend best practices and policy updates to keep Florida attorneys competitive, complaint and forward thinking

Cyber Security

Bolster The Florida Bar’s support against cyber security threats for our members. Deploy an IT security response team on call 24 hours a day free-of-charge to assist our members to the extent they are victims of cyber-crime. In addition, The Florida Bar will continue its efforts through the standing committee on Cybersecurity and Privacy law to further cyber security awareness through education.
